It’s kind of hard to believe that I am almost done with my senior year already! Since the past year, my life has taken an amazing turn, and I thank most of that to Usher’s Camp New Look. Before attending the amazing program I never really had an inspirational mindset to do things and making it stick, but camp gave me that extra boost that I needed to be able to broadcast my talent. While attending this camp I was able to perform in front of other teens, adults, and performers from across the country receiving a great deal of positive feedback. After the camp I used all this feedback that I have gained to continue writing my art.

Over the past couple of months I have been competing against other teenage poets in the area, we call it slamming or slam poetry. Basically we all perform our pieces and are judged by the audience or a panel of judges. I made it through finals and I am one of 5 on the team. We will be traveling to Chicago this summer to compete on a national level against the best of the best poets from across the country. The even is called Brave New Voices, and I may have the opportunity to be on HBO with their new series on youth poets.
